Industry Overview Course - January 2027
Seaweed Academy
The Seaweed Academy’s Industry Overview Course is designed to provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the seaweed industry’s entire value chain.
Next Course – 25th – 29th January 2027
Here are some of the key features of the course:
- Guest Speakers: The course will feature guest speakers from the sector who will share their expertise and insights with attendees.
- Lab Visits: Attendees will have the opportunity to visit labs and gain insight and experience in the field and at the farm (this is weather dependent).
- Deep-Dive into the Value Chain: The course will cover the entire value chain, from production to distribution, to help attendees gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

WWF UK and the Garfield Weston Foundation Scholarships
The Seaweed Academy has partnered with WWF UK and the Garfield Weston Foundation to provide scholarships covering the full course fee and T&S for the duration of the course, which is administered by WWF.

Seaweed Nursery Course
2026 Applications Closed
Our two-day Seaweed Nursery Course will take place on Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th of August 2026.
This course will cover the early stages of the cultivation of kelps through lectures and hands-on practicals. We will walk you through spore releases, bulking and maintaining cultures, and biosecurity, and the set up and day-to-day running of a seaweed nursery. A moderate level of knowledge about the lifecycle and biology of kelp is required for this course.
Course Duration – Two-days on-site at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, Dunbeg, Oban, PA37 1QA
Date – Wednesday the 12th – Thursday the 13th August 2026
